Fig 'Brown Turkey' is a large hardy deciduous shrub with bold, deeply lobed leaves and insignificant flowers followed by edible fruit to 10cm in length, at first green, but purplish when ripe. Usually one crop of fruit per year, but sometimes two in a hot summer or under protection
Like most fruit trees, it grows best in full sun in any well-drained soils and is very happy even in sandy soils of coastal areas. Brown turkey fig can reach heights of 20 feet or more, but the tree responds well to pruning, prune it back in winter so it stands about 8 feet tall. At this height, you can easily harvest the figs without a ladder.
Fine tasting brown figs which ripen in summer, perfect for growing against a sunny wall or in a greenhouse.
